The financial side of the story is often forgotten and this can cause stress. Journalist @rosalindjana⁠ wrote a striking article for @dazed about the potential resurrecting of size zero due the Y2K trend that is taking over the industry. Has all the work to divert from the unattainable, super-slim body ideal been for nothing?

According to Rosalind, ‘size zero’ is about 15 years old. Typical examples to illustrate the problem with tiny sizes are the famous Uruguayan Luisel and Eliana Ramos. The model sisters died six months apart at the age of 22 and 18.

Size zero is also the message of a famous quote by Kate Moss. ‘Nothing tastes as good as skinny feels’. The icon is known for her Skeletal appearance in the 90s. They used to call it “heroin chic”. Now we call it Anorexia, Unhealthy, A Problem.

So: let’s fix this - is what we all said. But as Rosalind phrased so accurately: “everyone in the fashion industry palming off responsibility onto one another, as editors blamed designers, and designers blamed model agents. A number of countries made lacklustre attempts to ban size-zero models from walking shows. Meanwhile, a huge amount of media ire was directed at the models themselves.”

Be it extreme thinness, filled lips or ideal curves, unattainable body types still dominate among the youngest and we need to actively change policies and make sure that responsibility is taken by the right parties. Let’t keep repeating what IS healthy and what DOES look normal and attainable. Let's WORK to change.
